This grand building constructed from NZ's most cherished wood, kauri, sits directly outside the Government Gardens’ main Prince’s Gate, and began life in 1897 as a pub in Waihi before being dismantled and moved board-by-board to Rotorua in 1917. Options range from the well-named Snug rooms to the opulent Duchess Suite with balcony overlooking the three pools. Surprisingly good value.
Befitting the period style, it offers high tea every day (11am to 4pm).
