Chitwan's leading lodge is still on Top. Tiger Tops was the very first lodge in the park, before it even was one, and later helped lobby for the park's creation. When lodges were banned from the park in 2012, it constructed this new lodge, which is hard to beat. Accommodation is atmospheric, service is impeccable and the vintage Land Rovers pitch perfect.
Built with local material in the traditional Tharu style, rooms are arranged in two long houses; end room 1 is particularly nice. As well as wildlife activities with expert guides, there are village tours and cultural shows. Most notably, Tiger Tops is taking the lead again by redefining the nature of the elephant experience at the heart of Chitwan tourism. This includes six safari tents with attached baths by the new Elephant Camp.
The lodge is located near the Narayani River on the western border of the park (specifically Amaltari, Nawalparashi, 7km off the Mahendra Hwy at Danda, a small town just past Kawasoti) but guests are usually picked up and dropped off at Bharatpur airport. The expansive grounds contain the lodge's own organic farm and well-kept elephants in expansive new corrals. Tiger Tops also supports the local community with a medical clinic and school.
