The only five-star property in Nagarkot, the newly opened Mystic Mountain is a steal at this upper-midrange price. With the exception of some growing pains in the kitchen, everything is top-notch, especially the staff. Best of all is the dramatic hillside location, which peers into the mists below, a phenomenon best enjoyed from the horizon pool.
The hotel demonstrates the sophisticated design so lacking elsewhere. Breaking from tradition, its undulating roofline seems to mimic the mountains themselves, while a skybridge connects the lobby to the rooms. At the moment there is nothing Nepali about it, although maybe this is the Nepal of the future. It's a long and rough road in, so when you come here, you're basically here to stay.
