Thrill-seekers drop off the Arniko Hwy – quite literally – at the Last Resort. Set in a gorgeous spot on a ridge above the Bhote Kosi River, 12km from the Tibetan border, the resort is reached by a vertiginous suspension bridge that doubles as a bungee-jumper's launch pad. Accommodation is in comfortable two- or four-person safari tents, surrounding a stone-and-slate dining hall-bar.
Most people visit on all-inclusive adventure packages – as well as swinging from a giant elastic band, you can combine rafting, trekking, mountain biking and canyoning.
For less endorphin-motivated travellers, there are solar-heated showers, a plunge pool and a sauna and spa, making it the most luxurious place to stay on this road and a great place to escape the city. Package rates include accommodation, meals and transport to and from Kathmandu – drop into the Kathmandu office in Thamel for more information and to book.
