Ecotourism Ger Camp

Top choice in Mongolia

For an offbeat experience, cross Terelj Gol for this pleasant ger camp run by an eccentric Dutchman named Bert and his lovely family. The meadow location here is gorgeous, and there's great hiking opportunities in the surrounding hills. The family makes a range of Dutch cheeses to go with handmade sausage and house-smoked bacon to enjoy at breakfast or lunch. Reservations essential.

Bert organises horse trips up to Günjiin Süm (T50,000 per day, plus T20,000 for a guide) or can just help you arrange a quick ride on a neighbour's horse (€6 per hour). A trekking guide is T6000 per hour, and he can also arrange canoe trips.

The property is located 2.5km from the UB-2 hotel, and to get here you need to call well ahead so Bert can pick you up for free, or if he's not around he can arrange a transfer from UB-2 hotel, possibly on one of his neighbours' ox-carts (T10,000 one way). Otherwise it's a 40-minute walk; call or email ahead for directions.
