Moldova

The best hostel in town, and not just because it's the only one with signage (making it viable for walk-ins). It's homey and friendly with a real common area, two spacious eight-bed dorm rooms with air-con, and some of the best food in town served in the Vkusnii Dom cafe at the back.

A Russian-Norwegian couple run it – the latter has lived in Transdniestr for years and has a yarn or two.
