Palenque

At first glance, this spot looks very inviting, especially the attractive jungle setting and the sprawling jungleside pool (frequented by vocal howler monkeys). On closer inspection, however, the rooms, while comfortable, are looking a tad tired around the edges for what you pay, and some reception staff can be a bit unfriendly.

But, it’s in a lovely spot and it's the closest accommodations to the ruins (it's just 400m from Palenque’s site museum). Note: being inside the national park means you have to pay the park entry fee if you arrive between 7am and 8pm.
