Villa Tziscao

Chiapas

By the lake in Tziscao village (2km from the highway turnoff), this medium-sized lakeside complex is run by an ejido cooperative. Extensive, grassy grounds (shame about the tree stumps) include a sandy beach with terrific views across the lake to the foothills of the Cuchumatanes in Guatemala. Comfortable rooms in the main hotel building have decent beds and bathroom tiling, plus flat-screen TVs.

More rustic wooden cabañas are also available. All accommodations have a private bathroom with hot water, and campers can use the kitchen. The hotel also has a restaurant (breakfast M$50 to M$80, mains from M$100).

You can arrange to rent two-person kayaks (M$100 per person per hour).
