Txalaparta

Oaxaca City

Take a vague Wild West theme, the cool menace of Reservoir Dogs and the appeal of hip-shaking cumbia sounds (music originating from Colombia) and you've got a rough feel for Txalaparta. This quietish hookah bar has plenty of dark nooks to hide away in by day, but morphs into a jiving hive at night with spirited DJ sets.

It mostly draws a crowd of youngsters in their 20s to mid-30s, who pile in to dance to assorted rhythms from Latin to tropical, world music, trip hop, reggae and more.
