Hotel Ecológico Temazcal

The Copper Canyon & Ferrocarril Chihuahua Pacífico

Though it's a 15-minute walk to the main plaza, this welcoming hotel has earned many admirers for its green ethos (solar panels, rainwater catchment, composting). Rooms are trim and tidy with wood ceilings, colorful bedspreads and ample natural light. TVs lack cable, though guests have access to an extensive video library. There's also a full kitchen for guests.

True to name, the hotel has its own volcanic-stone-filled temazcal, which is something of a sweat lodge – used by indigenous groups for both healing and spiritual experiences.
