Far more characterful than the hulking resort hotels is this intimate American-run hacienda on a quiet residential street about 500m from the beach. Three stylish but homey rooms are individually decorated – one with Balinese masks – and there's a lovely pool and garden. It backs onto greenery where you can spot birds and animals from a path. Hospitality is very genuine.
