Perhaps the boutiquiest resort on the island, 20° Sud has a cache of chic, plantation-inspired rooms. Walls are lavished with prim white paint, accented by draped linen and elegant dark-wood mouldings. Palatial oak doors initiate guests into the vine-draped public area, a lush palm grove with an inviting swimming pool and a cosy lodge-style library. Children under 12 not allowed.
The resort also operates a popular catamaran day trip to Île Plate for snorkelling, sunbathing and an elegant barbecue feast in the stylishly half-renovated ruins of the old Governor's House. Nonguests can join in, although you must book several days in advance as the trip is exceedingly popular.
