Amari Havodda Maldives

Southern Atolls

Stylish midrange resorts are fairly few and far between in Maldives, but the Thai Amari group has brought the concept to this remote corner of the country. The eye-shaped island is gorgeous, surrounded by wide white beaches and covered in thick vegetation. As the resort was newly built from scratch very recently, everything feels gleamingly sleek and new.

There are 120 villas on the island, neatly divided into 60 on land and 60 over water. These are thoroughly modern in style, with bright tropical colours, four-poster beds and the odd rustic touch to remind you where you are. The top category water villas and beach villas have their own plunge pools. All guests here are on full board, which further reduces the cost of a stay, although it's also possible to upgrade to one of two all-inclusive tariffs if you prefer to give the extras no thought at all. The premium all-inclusive package even covers cooking lessons and a treatment in the Breeze Spa.

The resort has three restaurants to choose from; there's unsurprisingly a definite Asian lean to the cuisine. Other facilities include a large main pool, a dive centre, water sports and a full programme of excursions to other islands.

The resort offers great value for money if you're looking for a stylish and comfortable island that won't break the bank.
