Tomb of Sultan Al Ariffin Syeikh Ismail

Melaka

Locals come to pay their respects at this simple tile-and-marble tomb, which is a roughly 10-minute signposted walk from the boat jetty.

Born in Baghdad in 1464, Sultan Al Ariffin Syeikh Ismail, a distant relation of the prophet Muhammad, reached Pulau Besar in 1495. From here, he helped spread Islam in the region.
