When this Catholic church was first established in 1854, it occupied a hut made of palm leaves; the handsome current structure dates from 1894. The floor tiles were designed by a French priest, the stained glass was imported from Belgium, the bell from France, and the twin spires stand impressively against the jungle behind. The church was being renovated when we stopped by.
