This remote and scenic lodge has 15 beautifully carved traditional-style Zafimaniry bungalows set in large grounds with airy views over fields, hills, and rivers. Evening meals are served on one large table and are joyous occasions (thanks in part to the great collection of rhum arrangé). There is a massage room and a small book exchange.
Sous Le Soleil de Mada is located 12km down the dirt road leading to Antoetra, the biggest (but least interesting) Zafimaniry village. If you don't have your own vehicle, the lodge can organise transfers from Ambositra. It's the perfect base for the Zafimaniry villages. The closer ones can be visited as easy day trips, while overnight treks with expert local guides can be arranged to more distant villages.
