Vientiane

A once-unique Vientiane shopping experience has sadly undergone a facelift: two-thirds of its world of stalls selling opium pipes, jewellery and traditional antiques have been ripped down and replaced with a bland modern mall. The original structure remains a good place for traditional Lao fabrics, but the fate of the vendors is hanging by a thread.
