Ameyoko Rizumu

Ueno & Yanesen

For nearly half a century this tiny stall in Ameya-yokochō has been selling recordings of popular Japanese music to the faithful. Its forte is enka, best described as Japanese folk ballads, which, at its best, is symphonic and emotionally dramatic. Owner Kobayashi-san is happy to make recommendations. More often than not, you can follow your ears to the store.

For those of you hanging on to your cassette-tape decks, it has plenty of recordings in this format, too.
