Kappō Miyako

Asakusa & Sumida River

Centuries ago, when Fukagawa was basically a tidal flat, hungry locals would gather clams at the shore, resulting in the neighbourhood's signature dish: fukagawa-meshi (rice steamed with clams). Sample the dish at this 90-year-old restaurant serves a piping hot 'fukagawa meshi set' (¥1500) that includes miso soup and pickles. It also serves asaru-nabe (eel stew), tempura rice bowls and sashimi.

Seating is at low tables on a reed matting floor; look for the bamboo and ivy out the front.
