Gyōshintei

Top choice in Nikkō

Treat yourself to an elegant course of shōjin-ryōri, Japanese Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. Meals are made from locally-sourced vegetables and bean curd and include Nikkō delicacy yuba (the thin skin that forms on the top of soy milk). The tatami-floored dining room overlooks a manicured garden.

While Gyōshintei looks like it requires reservations, walk-ins are welcome. It is part of the Meji-no-Yakata compound of chic restaurants, very close to Tōshō-gū and Rinnō-ji.
