This hostel is in a modernised kayabukiya, with both Japanese- and Western-style bedding. It's out by its lonesome in the far west of the village – ideal if you have a car or a bicycle (or just want to take local walks or relax on the porch swing). The friendly owners speak some English.
The food (breakfast ¥700, dinner ¥1240 to ¥4300), made with local ingredients, is excellent. If you're keen, the proprietor will run lunchtime cooking lessons for ¥1500 (lunch included!).
The nearest train station is Wachi (on the JR San'in line), from where you'll have to catch a local bus headed for Izumi and get off at Ikuseien-mae bus stop (¥600, 20 minutes). There are only a few buses daily; when you book, the hostel will help you work out the schedule.
