Some 3km from Spello, this medieval farmstead is a delight. Surrounded by silent olive groves on the slopes of Monte Subasio, it commands stirring views over patchwork plains and hills. Its rooms have a cosily rustic flavour, with wrought-iron beds, wood beams and 1000-year-old stone walls. Dinner, served in the barrel-vaulted restaurant, is a feast of home-grown produce.
The family produces their own wine, olive oil, cheese and salumi, among other things.
You could easily hole up here for a day or two to cycle (mountain bikes are available) or hike through the Monte Subasio nature park to Assisi, around 6km away.
