Osteria al Canale

Enna

Enna foodies know all about this simple village eatery, a 24km drive southeast of Enna. Lorded over by head chef Lillo Serra, its shtick is honest, locally rooted dishes such as seasoned pecorino with onion marmalade, pasta sfoglia (puff pastry) stuffed with seasonal veggies, and spaghetti with pesto siciliano (tomato, salted ricotta, basil, chilli and almonds). Dinner reservations are obligatory.

That the dining-room cabinet features a photo of Australian-born singer Tina Arena is no coincidence. Her parents hail from the village and the star herself has been known to scribble down some of Lillo's recipes.
