Hotel Palazzo Guadagni

Top choice in Oltrarno

This romantic midrange hotel overlooking Florence's liveliest summertime square is legendary – Zeffirelli shot scenes from Tea with Mussolini here. Housed in an artfully revamped Renaissance palace, it has 15 spacious rooms with old-world high ceilings and the occasional fresco or fireplace (decorative today). In summer bartenders serve cocktails on the impossibly romantic loggia terrace with wicker chairs and predictably dreamy views.

Rooms on the 6th floor peek out across Florentine rooftops, climaxing with room No 8 with balcony and magnificent cathedral view. Rates in low season are less than 50% of high-season rates.
