Set in a beautifully restored Mamluk-Ottoman-era currency exchange in the Old City, Khan Al Wakalah has been a pit stop for travellers between Damascus and Jerusalem (as well as religious pilgrims on their way to Mecca and Medina) for centuries. Its 24 rooms are set around a shaded courtyard with big comfy beds and stunning interiors of wood and traditional Nablus stone.
The restoration of Khan Al Wakalah, aided by a €2.5 million donation from the European Union, was completed in 2008 after the building was all but destroyed during the Second Intifada. It was used as an events venue until the hotel opened in 2017. The hotel's sole single room, on the 2nd floor, is one of its best.
