Pasar Bosnik

Papua

For a slice of local life, you can't do better than a trip to this outdoor marketplace, where three times a week vendors descend from all corners of Biak and its neighbouring islands to sell fresh seafood, vegetables, jewellery and betel nut seeds. Don't miss the 'salt fish,' a smoked delicacy.

Unfortunately, you may notice somebody selling a 'kuskus' (otherwise known as a slow loris) as part of the market's illegal pet trade. It's very upsetting because these amazing creatures are members of a threatened species.
