Margaret's Deck

West Bengal

For fine teas and tasty food in contemporarily stylish surroundings, head 8km up the Darjeeling road from Kurseong to this, yes, deck, built out over a steep, panoramic tea-covered slope. Opened in 2017, it has terrace tables and a picture-windowed room with pot plants, flower-print chairs and the tea menu chalked in colours on a blackboard.

The Continental food ranges from scones, apple crumble and quiche to cheese-and-broccoli soup and smoked chicken salad. Food and tea prices are a little on the high side.

It's 1km past Tung station. You can reach it by van (shared/reserved ₹30/300) from the side street almost opposite Cansala Hotel, 150m along the Darjeeling road from Kurseong station. Staff at the cafe can help flag down return transport to Kurseong.
