This fabulous, low-key resort feels like a pseudo temple and is set gloriously alone amid trees and terraced organic gardens 200m off the Rumtek road (around 1km beyond Sajong). Expect full creature comforts, atmospheric communal spaces, a library, a dining room displaying local artefacts, an incense-wafted temple-room for meditation, and a range of other activities including traditional hot-stone baths, cooking classes and a hike-and-taste day experiencing Lepcha culture.
The 12 comfy rooms are named for their coordinating colours, and all but three have balconies offering superb views. No TVs except in the designated lounge. If you fancy staying at least a couple of weeks and have experience in permaculture it's worth enquiring about a working-holiday volunteer position.
