The suite-sized rooms at Patan Mahal have all been painstakingly restored and furnished in plush and comfortable style. This is a relaxing retreat where you won’t be distracted by TV. You can laze instead in a luxurious marble pool or find a sunny nook to read a book. The extensive grounds also include organic gardens that supply the kitchen and excellent restaurant.
If you're feeling more energetic you can trek up to the battle-scarred ruins of the first palace and even to the fort, to see the handiwork of de Boigne’s cannon. Alternatively, you can venture into the totally untouristed village and watch the women making lac (resin) bangles.
The hotel is owned and managed by Rao Digvijay Singh, who has for many years run the Madhuban, a well-regarded hotel in Jaipur.
