Konyak Tea Retreat

Nagaland

This fantastic homestay is run by the friendly Phejin, the descendant of a legendary Konyak headhunter, and she does an excellent job familiarising guests with her tribal roots. Accommodation is in eco-chic rooms overlooking a tea garden, and the Naga meals are delicious to the last morsel. It's located in the small village of Shiyong, about 30km west of Mon.

A jeep to Shiyong (₹200, 1½ hours) departs Mon bus stand at noon, Monday to Saturday, and makes the return trip at 7am; taxis are ₹3500 one way. It's best to book through a travel agency; otherwise, advance payment by bank transfer is usually required.
