Sa-i-Mika Resort

Meghalaya

Two groups of rustic but comfortable stone-walled, tin-roofed cottages are scattered across a hillside 2km west of Cherrapunjee (3km by road). On first impression it seems rather haphazardly managed, but Sa-i-Mika runs fine in its own way. Chirpy local lads cook up noodle dishes, grilled sandwiches and all-day breakfasts – and proffer beer, wine and spirits to the needy.

There's also an extremely bare-bones dorm where you could lay your head if your budget's at rock bottom.
