One of Reykjavík's top high-concept restaurants, Matur og Drykkur means 'Food and Drink', and you'll surely be plied with the best of both. The brainchild of brilliant chef Gísli Matthías Auðunsson, who also owns the excellent Slippurinn, it creates inventive versions of traditional Icelandic fare. Book ahead in high season and for dinner.
The brave can take on the traditional cod's head (memorable, but not for everyone), or choose from fish, lamb or one of the exquisite tasting menus (including a vegetarian option). Starters and desserts are nuanced and unique; the wine list is delicious.
