Wonderfully blustery Lónkot is a gourmet pit stop along the rugged coast, 13km north of Hofsós. Billed as a ‘rural resort’ it has boutique accommodation (including a big family suite) with super sea views, and an indoor hot-pot. The output from its restaurant (mains 4300kr to 5200kr; open noon to 9.30pm mid-May to August) is inspired by local produce and slow-cooking principles.

Lunch is served too, or drop by for coffee and cake. Campers are also welcome (1000kr per person), though facilities for them are limited.
