Engares Olive Press

Naxos

This small olive press makes Engares, 7km north of Hora, a worthy side trip. A guide explains its workings (in operation from 1850 to 1960), and there are free tastings of olive-based products, the oddest of which is the surprisingly palatable olive marmalade. Buy your olive oil, pastes, soaps and orange cake here.
