Bikini Berlin

City West & Charlottenburg

Germany’s first concept mall opened in 2014 in a smoothly rehabilitated 1950s architectural icon nicknamed 'Bikini' because of its design: 200m-long upper and lower sections separated by an open floor, now chastely covered by a glass facade. Inside are three floors of urban indie boutiques, short-lease pop-up 'boxes' for up-and-comers, and an international street-food court.

Look for eyewear by Mykita, marzipan by Ohde and funky fashions by German label Blutsgeschwister. Even if shopping leaves you cold, come for the interior, an industrial-flavoured mash-up of exposed steel girders, concrete walls and a huge panoramic window offering front-row views of Zoo Berlin's monkey enclosure. A wooden staircase leads to a huge rooftop terrace with sweeping views over the entire zoo and the Tiergarten.
