Family-run since 1920, this grande dame of the Chamonix accommodation scene uplifts its guests with leafy gardens, a well-chosen breakfast banquet (€18) and an open fire crackling in the bar. Decked out in larch wood and tastefully attired with plump leather seats and swish, vintage-style bathrooms, most rooms have magnificent Mont Blanc views. Six night minimum stay.
There are also three saunas, a spa and a kids' playroom, to restore snow or wind-battered spirits at the end of the day.
