Lomamokkila

Top choice in The Finnish Lakeland

This farmstay 12km northwest of Savonlinna is run by a genial Finnish family and incorporates a handsome century-old farmhouse, two nearby guesthouses and lakeside cottages with sauna and their own jetty and rowboat (but no wi-fi). There are three pretty rooms in the main farmhouse and eight rooms in each guesthouse; the latter share a kitchen and lounge.

Facilities include a sauna, BBQs, a tennis court and bikes for rent (per day/week €10/50). A buffet dinner made from farm-grown produce is available in summer (€19, Monday to Saturday). Breakfast is served year-round and costs €10.
