The Seashell is 13km from the main road and has an undiscovered air about it. It offers great value if you don’t mind the dated decor. Accommodation comes in all shapes and configurations, from self-contained bures and apartments to roomy dorms. On-site facilities include a tennis court, a children’s playground, two pools, a restaurant (mains $15 to $30) and enough palm trees for a whole island.
People don’t come here for the beach (although if you walk around the rocky point, there’s a larger bay with better sand). Rather, they come for access to some of Fiji’s hottest dive spots and premier surf breaks – or just to kick back away from the crowds for a few days. A 7am surf trip departs daily for a three- to four-hour session ($65 per person, minimum of two people) to the Mamanuca surf breaks. A meal plan is available for $104.
