Tavua’s historic hotel is the only place to stay in town, and it’s an unexpected gem. Built in the 1930s gold boom, it’s all polished wood, high breezy rooms and open public spaces. In the original building, the rooms – all with private bathrooms – have an attractive air of faded elegance.
A few newer rooms are laid out in the landscaped grounds. Drop in for a drink or meal at least (go for the curry of the day), and enjoy the old photos on the downstairs walls.
