Queen's Head

Owned by Robinsons Brewery and comprehensively refurbished after a major fire, this old inn makes a tempting Troutbeck spot – with 10 snug rooms decorated with Lakeland prints and large-scale maps, plus solid pub food in the bar (mains £11.50 to £19.95). The revamp has stripped out character in places, but the oak bar, flagstones, beams and hearth remain in place.
