Vintage Vardos

Top choice in North Devon

There's every chance you'll fall utterly in love with this enchanting encampment of restored Romany caravans. The three brightly painted wagons boast log burners, funky fabrics and snug sleeping platforms. Night lights in jam jars lead to a fire pit fringed by log benches, a hamper full of crockery and ranks of cast-iron pans. It's 10 miles south of Barnstaple.

There's even a bailer-twine-sprung outdoor bed, so you can slumber under the stars. It's all done with love and humour, and is impossible to resist. You have to book the entire campsite (which sleeps six to 12).
