London's oldest hostelry, this landmark hotel was created in 1837 from 11 townhouses. Each of the 115 rooms has been individually decorated by designer Olga Polizzi, and many feature antiques and original artworks. The public areas are lovely: the traditional English Tea Room is all Edwardian oak panelling and working fireplaces while the Donovan Bar has a stunning 19th-century stained-glass window.
Lovely in-house spa with treatments too. Staff are genuinely warm and welcoming.
