Deep South

Top choice in Marsa Alam

If you're looking to strip it back to the basics of sun, sea and sand, Deep South offers palm-thatch huts and simple but extravagantly painted chalets, a warm welcome and good food in an exceptionally mellow atmosphere. There are good dive packages too. It's located on a hill across the road from Tondoba Bay, 14km south of Marsa Alam.

Karim Noor, who started and runs Deep South, is originally from Cairo but is committed to the life here. Proceeds from the camp help fund his efforts to preserve the area's natural beauty and to improve life in the region, whether by providing healthcare for the local Ababda people, taking a guest at Deep South to his favourite swimming hole, or running the 3alganoob Music Festival here every April.
