La Posada de Tigua is part of a working dairy ranch. The farmhouse dates to the 1890s and is now a rustic and delightfully cozy guesthouse. The rooms, with meter-thick walls, have modern bathrooms and cowhide rugs, and meals include cheese and yogurt made on the farm (you can assist!), as well as homegrown potatoes and carrots.
Maps and a guide ($25) can be arranged for the five-hour hike (15km) to Quilatoa. A the time of research, three cheaper rooms ($30) and one more expensive suite were scheduled for completion.
