Secret Garden Cotopaxi

Central Highlands

This lovely rustic property on the way to the northern entrance of Parque Nacional Cotopaxi has superb views and loads of activities: hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking or simply relaxing in a hammock, sitting fireside or soaking in the Jacuzzi. Transfers from Quito or Machachi are available through the sister hostel. The four new aptly named Bird House rooms are sweet.

Included in the room rates are three home-cooked meals a day, made with produce from the vegetable garden when possible; other ecologically conscious practices include compost toilets. Rooms range from dorms with bunks and woodburning stoves to three cute Hobbit rooms (book in advance!) built into the hillside and cabins with private bathrooms. Camping is also available (per tent $30).
