Hotel Timor

Dili

A stay here, right in what could be considered the centre of Dili, is a dip into colonial times, with a touch of grandeur to its fading dark-wood staircases and handicrafts-filled foyer. Rooms are spacious but fairly bland and you'd expect better facilities (a lift, for example) for this price.

The UN announced the independence referendum result here in 1999.
