Hotel Palacio

Santo Domingo

Cross colonial with a touch of medieval and you have the Palacio, a maze-like hotel occupying a 17th-century mansion only a block north of El Conde. Service is exceptional and you’ll need it to find your way past the charming nooks and crannies, which include reading areas, a gym, a small bar, a lush interior courtyard and stone-walled walkways.

First-floor rooms are German minimalist while the larger 2nd-floor rooms are more modern and generic. Though it lacks shade, the small rooftop pool is a big plus, as is the gym.
