On paper, the Casa del Sol seems like a no-brainer, with borderline budget rates and well located at the very southeastern corner of the Zona Colonial on a charming cobblestone courtyard. The 'superior' and 'deluxe' rooms are larger, have nice tiled floors, high ceilings and even small terraces. But there are quibbles with poor TV reception, lackluster breakfast and no lobby or front desk.
You'll have to climb to the 3rd-floor roof where the manager sleeps to get help. It's the very same roof with nice views, a Jacuzzi and where breakfast is served. Ground-floor street-facing rooms can get noisy at night because of the colmado across the street.
