Blue Bay Hotel & Resort

North Coast

One of the few adults-only resorts on the north coast, Blue Bay styles itself as a boutique option for singles and couples looking for a holiday evocative of a Miami Beach hotel. The front lobby area is all flowing drapery, a super-high ceiling and blue pastel accents, though the try-hard minimalism room design is slightly undermined by the lower-quality furniture.

It's more compact and less sprawling than other Playa Dorada options and the spa and food, especially the stand-alone Asian fusion Jade Garden (nonguests can eat here; mains RD$650), are a step up from competitors. There's a charge for wi-fi.
