Heladería Monteverde

Monteverde & Santa Elena

Formerly the Monteverde Cheese Factory, this business was started in 1953 by Monteverde’s original Quaker settlers. It produced everything from a creamy Gouda to a very nice sharp white cheddar, as well as other dairy products such as yogurt and, more importantly, ice cream and milk shakes. Now owned by the Mexican giant Sigma Alimentos, the shop still sells products made with the original recipes.

Don’t miss the chance to sample Monte Rico cheese, a Monteverde original. Sadly, tours of the facility are no longer offered.
